FAQS

WE KNOW CHOOSING A HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY CAN BE DAUNTING.....LETS MAKE IT EASIER!

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK THROUGH OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TO HELP GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE BOOKING PROCESS...

What time will you arrive on the wedding day?

This is one of most popular questions brides often ask! On average hair and makeup on the day is around 45 mins per person which will give you an idea of timing depending on your wedding ceremony time. However please note that we can’t confirm the exact time of arrival until we’ve had the trial with you as this is where your MUA will discuss styles, hair types and makeup requirements along with your wedding morning itinerary/plans to determine the appropriate arrival time. Please book in for your trial sooner rather than later if you require the time of arrival as soon as possible for your wedding planning needs.

Remember you can also add our makeup artist/hair assistant option to your booking if you have a larger bridal party or particular time constraints as this can ensure a swifter process without compromising the standard of service.

What type of brands do you use?

We use many different brands hand selected to give the best results for each skin/hair type. Makeup brands include, Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury, Urban Decay, M.A.C, Bobbi Brown Dior, Victoria Beckham, Smashbox, Benefit, Dior and our very own LHC.

Hair products include, Balmain, Showdry, Label M, L’Oreal, Sebastian, Wella, Tresemme and Toni & Guy.

Do you cater for sensitive or problem prone skin?

Yes!

If you have sensitive skin then we have products designed to calm and de-sensitise your skin. For Acne/Rosacea or problem prone skin, we use specially formulated primers and concealers to neutralise redness, ensuring your skin remains flawless all day.

I want to use some of my own makeup products is this possible?

Yes of course, we want you to feel totally comfortable so if you would like us to use a product you know works well on your skin we are more than happy to do so.

I normally wear very little makeup; will I need to wear lots of makeup to look good?

Not at all, our service is about enhancing your natural features and creating a look that feels like you, just more polished, ensuring you look flawless on and off camera. Bridal makeup is all about good balance therefore we will ensure there is a balance of what will look good on camera and still natural to make sure you feel comfortable with your chosen look.

If I have short hair or only require minimal makeup, will I still have to pay the same price as other brides?

The price for hair and makeup isn’t usually determined by hair length or whether you require a minimal amount of makeup. Rather you are paying for the experience and expertise of a professionally trained bridal specialist for your special day which we understand is very important. Your Individual preferences and requirements are inclusive of that charge. Please note that minimal makeup still requires prepping/blending and the need to be set with various products suitable for your skin type so that it wears well on your skin throughout the day. Shorter hair also needs to be styled using a range of techniques and products that will help to maintain volume and/or help the hair to hold in place throughout the day depending on the style you chose. Your stylist can also offer suggestions based on their experience where needed.

How do I secure the booking for my Wedding hair and makeup and when do other payments need to be paid by?

Once you have received your quote, a £20.00 per person deposit payment is payable to secure your date & booking. Ahead of the trial appointment a 50% payment of the total outstanding balance will be due 1 week before the trial date to cover your trial fee. The final balance is then paid at your trial or12 weeks before the wedding date (if agreed by your makeup artist).

To make a payment to secure your date or book your trial please follow our online instructions. You can also request our bank details to make a payment via bank transfer if this is preferred.

How far do you travel?

We primarily cover the West Midlands, Shropshire and further a field destinations. We also offer bespoke packages abroad on request.

How are your travel costs calculated?

The standard national rate per mile is calculated from the artist’s home address to the wedding location and back to the artist’s home address. Mileage may also represent the fuel, time and associated costs needed to accommodate road travel to your destination where applicable.

Once your booking is secured, all travel costs will be locked for the duration of your booking unless you change venue location/s.

Distances exceeding 40 miles one way on the wedding day itself may include a discussion about providing pre-wedding night accommodation due to the early start times & long drives required by our artists to ensure they arrive fresh to provide a professional service.

Do you charge extra for Public or Bank Holiday Wedding hair and makeup?

Public Holidays may sometimes incur a small surcharge on occasion due to increased demand and operating costs. It is up to the bookee to enquire the amount prior to booking.

What methods of payment to you accept?

We accept Apple Pay, cash & bank transfer only

Can I add extra people to my Wedding hair and makeup booking after the initial booking has been made?

Yes it is fine to add any extra people to the booking for hair or makeup but you will need to contact your hair or makeup artist as soon a possible with the details to confirm if they have time to provide extra hair or makeup services. You would then need to make a further deposit payment to secure the extra services.

What if I need to cancel my wedding hair and makeup or reduce the numbers for hair or makeup?

Charges may apply if the original booking is altered or cancelled - Please see our T&C’s for further details.

What if I need to re-arrange the wedding date?

You are more than welcome to rearrange the wedding date due to unforeseen circumstances, however if you have a new date in mind we will need to check if your hair or makeup artist is available before we can agree to this. Please see our T&C’s for further details.

What if my Hair or Makeup artist has to cancel the Hair or Makeup before the wedding date or is ill on the day of the wedding?

Cancellations by the hair or makeup artist due to circumstances including, but not limited to, problems rendering the hair or makeup artist incapable of their obligations, the hair or makeup artist will endeavour to find a suitable replacement however if this is not possible a full refund of the wedding day balance only will be given by the hair or makeup artist. No further compensation will be offered.

Are all your team and/or assistants qualified in hair and makeup?

Yes we have hand selected the best third party hair and makeup artists in the industry who are all fully qualified with hair, makeup or both where applicable who are also highly experienced, to ensure you have the best hair and makeup experience, and peace of mind in knowing you have booked a professional.

How far in advance do you take bookings and do you have last minute availability?

We usually take bookings up to 3 years in advance so it is never too early to book. As we have a team of hair and makeup artists we can also book last minute weddings.

When do I need to book the bridal trial?

As soon as you wish to and providing you have finalised your dress and chosen look - although 2-3 months before the wedding is a good time to aim for.

Do my bridesmaids need to have a trial?

We do recommend it but it is not essential, it just gives you peace of mind, to ensure the perfect balance for the photographs and that the wedding party are perfectly happy with the final result so every detail is covered for the wedding as well as accurate timings.

However we will allocate more time on the wedding day if it is not possible for everyone to have trials, therefore there is an additional surcharge added for anyone not having trials before the day (please see this info on our price list).

Why do my bridesmaids need to pay a surcharge if I do not want them to have a trial?

Without a trial before the wedding day as recommended, there is no way to determine exactly how long an individuals hair or makeup will take and therefore only an estimation can be provided prior to consultation or physical application. Therefore we need to include more time on the wedding day to compensate for this. Our time is payable which is why there is a surcharge added to ensure we can still provide the same services you require for your bridal party without compromising our standard of work.

Will having a tan/lashes or hairstyle change affect the look of the hair or make-up on the wedding day?

It is advisable if you are thinking of having a tan or lashes to trial them just before the bridal makeup trial so you can see how the makeup will look for the wedding day, however if this is not possible don’t worry as the makeup can be colour matched again on the wedding day to blend in with the tan.

If you are thinking of changing your hairstyle dramatically in colour or length we would strongly advise having this done first before booking the trial so you can then see how the hair will look on the wedding day as if it changed after the trial the hair stylist cannot guarantee the style will look the same.

What happens at the hair or makeup trial and how long does it take?

This is where we will go through your chosen look in detail so we can gain a real understanding of exactly what you would like to achieve. Taking in to account your personal style and hair or makeup preferences i.e., whether you like a more natural approach or a bolder more dramatic look. Detailing any colour schemes and themes for the wedding to incorporate into the final look if required will also be considered.

Once a style has been decided,  we will style the hair or makeup and ask for your preferences along the way so you feel comfortable with the chosen look, if necessary (based on your feedback) we will make any changes to the hair or makeup to ensure you are perfectly happy with the style.

At the end of the trial we will take photos and confirm all the details and timings for the wedding day so you can relax knowing everything is organised and in place for your special day. Please allow 1.5 hours for the bridal trial, however the bridesmaid/wedding party trials may take less time.

What do I need to prepare for the hair or makeup trial?

We can of course show you examples of hair or makeup styles to give you inspiration but we do recommend that you bring some ideas along to the trial - Pinterest, google, Instagram or wedding magazines are great for this.

Please wash and dry your hair the night before the trial, as this will be best for styling the hair. Please feel free to provide any hair accessories you would like to try although we do have a supply of hair accessories you can sample and purchase from us at the trial if required.

If you would like any hair extensions adding please discuss this prior to the trial so we can supply them for you if necessary.

What if I change my mind about my chosen look after the trial?

At the trial we will ensure that you are happy with the chosen look. However if you decide after the trial that you are not entirely happy with your chosen look, please contact us to book a second trial - Please note any extra trials are payable.

When and where does the trial take place and do you come to my location on the wedding day?

Trials are usually held (on Fridays) at our studio in Penn, Wolverhampton - 8 Springhill Lane, WV4 4SH.

We may be able to arrange to come to your location under certain circumstances for the trial which will need to be discussed before hand to see if we can accommodate your request. We a fully mobile for the wedding day and will travel to your venue or home.

Can I book a trial before booking the wedding date?

Every booking to secure a date needs to be secured with a deposit. This reserves your date with your chosen hair or makeup artist as we cannot guarantee your date will be available if you have the trial beforehand, due to the high number of enquiries. However if you do book a trial before securing the date then it is on the basis that your date may not be available at the time you do wish to book.

I would like wedding hair or makeup but not both, is this possible?

Yes of course, as we have separate hair and makeup artists so it is possible to book for either service as long as you are able to meet our minimum requirement.

Do you offer a service where you stay during the wedding or reception to do touch ups for hair or makeup for the bride, bridal party or guests?

Yes we do offer this service. This is our VIP bespoke package which can include the bride having a full restyle for hair and makeup and touch ups to hair and makeup for the wedding party and any guests. It is payable from the time of your ceremony. Please contact us for a quote.

What happens on the wedding day and how long will hair or makeup take?

We spend time at the trial getting every detail perfect for you, so on the day the hair and makeup runs smoothly.

Your artist will arrive at the time arranged at your chosen location with their full hair or makeup kit.

Our team will set up an area for hair or makeup - usually we would ask for a location with lots of natural light for applying the makeup if possible and for hair an area that has a plug point for the hair appliances.

Once every one is completed the hair stylist will ask if anyone needs any last minute touches.

I have a larger wedding party or guests staying locally can you accommodate larger groups or multiple locations?

Yes this is possible as we can arrange timings between locations if they are local enough or provide more than one hair or makeup artist for your wedding or special event.

Will we have the same hair or makeup artist on the wedding day that did trial?

Yes when you make the booking, the hair or makeup artist selected will always provide hair or makeup for both the wedding day and trial,  unless in the unlikely event they have had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, then different hair or makeup artist will be provided where possible, or a full refund will be given.

Will my makeup and hair last the whole day through?

We pride ourselves on our skills in this field and have over the years cherry picked the best products to ensure your hair and makeup will last well into the evening and beyond.

The only item that should need topping up is the lipstick/gloss as they tend to be less durable due to eating and drinking through the day.

However, depending on your skin type we may recommend an anti shine powder that can be quickly applied in case you worried due to having particularly oily skin or you are getting married in the peak of summer.

With this in mind we have developed a special bridal top up kit by LHC that can be purchased at your trial… alternatively we can recommend the lipstick/gloss used at the trial for you to purchase.

On the day do I need to get hair or makeup done first?

If hair and makeup are going to be done at the same time and same location, it does not matter which is done first. If you plan to wash your hair on the morning we would recommend doing this before any makeup is applied.

Is there a running order/schedule for wedding makeup on the day?

Although there is no set order, after years of experience in bridal hair and make-up we would recommend the following order: –

  1. Bridesmaid/person that is going to get the bride in to her wedding dress go first, that way once they have had their hair and makeup done they can get themselves ready so they will be free to help the bride in to her dress once her hair and makeup is finished.

  2. It would be advisable for the bride to have their hair and makeup done some where in the middle of the running order as if first they can worry about it lasting and if last they will feel rushed  getting in to their wedding dress.

  3. Mother of the Bride/Groom, younger bridesmaids, flower girls or anyone not involving in dressing the bride to go last as they can easily slip their dresses on towards the end.

What do I need to do to prepare for hair or makeup on the wedding day?

For your makeup application, if you can cleanse and moisturise your skin and possibly have eaten and brushed your teeth before makeup application, that will really help.

If you can freshly wash your hair either on the morning if you have oily hair or the day before if you have normal/dry hair then this will help with styling.

Avoid using any hair heavy products or products that make the hair stiff such as mousse or hairspray. If your hair is particularly frizzy or thick, we recommend that you run a heated appliance through the ends in particular to smooth it out ready for styling.

Please wear a robe/dressing gown or something that can be easily take off rather than over the head as this may affect the finished hair or makeup.

Do you provide bridal tattoo coverage?

Yes we do offer this service. At trial stage we will assess the tattoo to see how long it will take to cover and any extra costs for bespoke products needed so we can give you an accurate quote for the wedding day.

One thing I’m insecure about are the dark elements in my skin (ie under eyes, upper lip etc). How can you cover these?

We prefer to advise what products will be suitable for your skin once we are face to face and can have a look at the areas you are most concerned about in person. However generally a concealer offering suitable coverage or a colour corrective product can be used to achieve the desired look.

How many looks can I try during the trial?

The bride can try up to 2 interchangeable hair styles at each trial and make changes to makeup if needed. Additional bridal party members will need to pre select what hair style and makeup look they require.

Can I see a portfolio of your work?

There are photos and a gallery available on our website of examples of hair and makeup. All photos on our Instagram are unfiltered. The only changes we may make to images are the exposure if the photo appears too dark when taken in natural or artificial light.

Do you have experience working with my skin tone, including black and asian skin?

Yes we are trained to work with all skin tones.

How long do you stay on the day?

We stay until we have everyone on the booking ready for the ceremony or event.

What happens if you’re unable to make it on the day (ie due to an emergency)?

Please refer our terms and conditions for all information regarding cancellations and exceptional circumstances.
